Algorithmic systems on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and AI-based Islamic applications increasingly mediate the production and dissemination of Islamic legal guidance, creating tensions between traditional scholarly authority and digitally constructed legitimacy. This study examines how algorithmic governance reshapes ulama authority and influences public acceptance of Islamic legal opinions in Indonesian digital Muslim communities. Using a socio-legal approach combined with digital ethnography, the research analyzes digital religious content, online Islamic interactions, and AI-assisted fatwa systems through qualitative thematic analysis. The findings reveal that algorithmic visibility, audience engagement, and platform monetization increasingly determine religious influence, often surpassing institutional recognition and scholarly credentials. Digital environments also encourage fragmented legal interpretation, accelerated religious consumption, and personalized Islamic guidance. The study concludes that algorithmic religious authority requires integrated governance frameworks combining digital literacy, institutional verification, and maqasid al-shariah-based ethical principles to preserve scholarly integrity within digital Islamic ecosystems.
Rena Zulfaidah Abdul Hakim Copyright (c) 2026 2025-12-23 2025-12-23 1 2 57 74 Artificial Intelligence and the Transformation of Islamic Inheritance Fatwa in Indonesian Digital Muslim Communities https://www.shariajournal.com/index.php/ijdis/article/view/1832
The rapid integration of artificial intelligence into Islamic digital services has transformed how Muslim communities access religious guidance, particularly in Islamic inheritance calculation and distribution. In Indonesia, AI-based inheritance calculators, digital fatwa platforms, and Islamic legal applications are increasingly used to simplify faraid calculations and provide instant legal guidance for complex inheritance cases. This study examines the role of artificial intelligence in reshaping Islamic inheritance fatwa and faraid calculation within Indonesian digital Muslim communities. Using a normative and socio-legal approach combined with digital content analysis, the research evaluates AI-assisted inheritance platforms and algorithmic legal systems related to Islamic inheritance disputes. The findings indicate that artificial intelligence improves accessibility, efficiency, and public understanding of Islamic inheritance law, especially in cases involving multiple heirs and complex family structures. However, the study also identifies challenges related to legal accuracy, contextual interpretation, algorithmic bias, and the limited involvement of Islamic scholars in AI-generated inheritance decisions. The article argues that AI implementation in Islamic inheritance services requires ethical and legal frameworks based on maqasid al-shariah, institutional verification, and digital Islamic literacy to ensure accountability and compliance with Islamic legal principles.
Apre Aldo Oganta Inayatillah Djakfar Copyright (c) 2026 2026-06-07 2026-06-07 1 2 75 88 Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Transformation of Islamic Marriage Registration in Indonesia https://www.shariajournal.com/index.php/ijdis/article/view/1833
The integration of artificial intelligence and digital platforms into Islamic marriage registration has transformed public religious services in Indonesia. Through systems such as SIMKAH and AI-assisted verification, digital governance increasingly shapes the administration of marriage registration at the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA). This study examines the impact of digital transformation on the accessibility, efficiency, and legal validity of Islamic marriage registration within Indonesian Muslim society. Using a normative socio-legal approach, the research analyzes regulatory frameworks, digital governance policies, and the implementation of AI-assisted marriage administration systems. The findings reveal that digitalization improves bureaucratic efficiency, accelerates administrative processes, and enhances data accuracy in marriage registration services. However, significant challenges remain, including digital inequality, data privacy concerns, regulatory fragmentation, and questions regarding religious legitimacy in algorithmic procedures. The study argues that sustainable digital governance of Islamic marriage registration requires an integrated framework based on maqasid al-shariah principles, institutional accountability, and contemporary data protection standards. This research contributes to digital Islamic studies by positioning artificial intelligence as an important instrument in the modernization of Islamic family law administration in Indonesia.
M Yahya Wahyudin Tate AB Copyright (c) 2026 2026-06-07 2026-06-07 1 2 89 103 Islamic Legal Technology and the Modernization of Marriage Registration Systems in Indonesian Muslim Communities https://www.shariajournal.com/index.php/ijdis/article/view/1834
The modernization of Islamic marriage registration through legal technology has become a critical phenomenon in the contemporary digital transformation of Indonesian Muslim communities. This shift reflects a broader trend where digital applications, electronic registration systems, and integrated administrative platforms are increasingly employed to facilitate marriage documentation and legal verification processes. The theoretical landscape surrounding this issue intersects Islamic family law, digital governance frameworks, and legal technology adoption within public administration systems. This study aims to analyze how legal technology reshapes Islamic marriage registration and influences legal accessibility, administrative effectiveness, and compliance with religious law requirements. Employing a normative and conceptual research approach, this study examines the relationship between Islamic law principles, digital governance mechanisms, and legal technology implementation in marriage administration. The findings reveal that digital systems have significantly improved service efficiency and legal integration across administrative bodies, yet they simultaneously generate challenges related to technological literacy, institutional adaptation, and the preservation of Islamic legal values. The study concludes that modernizing Islamic marriage registration requires balanced governance that harmonizes technological innovation, legal certainty, and Islamic ethical principles. Future policy recommendations emphasize developing digital literacy programs, establishing clear regulatory frameworks for technology adoption, and ensuring that digital transformation remains aligned with maqāṣid al-sharīʿah objectives.
Sherina Suci Famelia Abdullah Abdullah Copyright (c) 2026 2026-06-07 2026-06-07 1 2 104 118 Artificial Intelligence and the Transformation of Islamic Knowledge Transmission in Indonesian Pesantren https://www.shariajournal.com/index.php/ijdis/article/view/1835
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) and digital learning technologies has transformed the transmission of Islamic knowledge in Indonesian pesantren. This study examines how AI reshapes educational practices, religious authority, and knowledge dissemination within traditional Islamic boarding schools. Using a normative and conceptual approach combined with digital Islamic studies methodology, the research analyzes academic literature, policy documents, and case studies of pesantren undergoing digital transformation. The findings show that AI enhances accessibility, learning efficiency, and the dissemination of Islamic knowledge beyond conventional spatial boundaries, while fostering hybrid learning environments where digital systems coexist with teacher-centered authority and sanad traditions. Nevertheless, the integration of AI also raises significant concerns regarding the authenticity of religious knowledge, the weakening of direct teacher–student interaction, algorithmic bias, and the preservation of classical Islamic pedagogical traditions. The study concludes that AI adoption in pesantren requires ethical and pedagogical frameworks grounded in Islamic educational values, digital literacy, and institutional supervision to ensure that technological innovation complements rather than replaces traditional religious authority. This research contributes to contemporary discussions on digital Islam, Islamic education, and the governance of AI in religious institutions.
Gita Faddilah Islam Ravida Ravida Copyright (c) 2026 2026-06-07 2026-06-07 1 2 119 134
